Default Sunset wedding

I have a wedding in October booked. it will be my first outdoor sunset wedding. I'am looking for any ideas of what equipment I should bring or have on hand. I have a canon 30d with light. Any help will be grateful.

Thanks

Allen

Hi allen.

First things first ..

What lenses do you have ?
Do you have a second body (digital or analogue)?
What do you want to spend?

Why 2 bodies:

One with a small zoom like a 18-55 and one with a tele lens .

it doesn't necessairily have to be two digtals (if you happen to be shure that the picture is good).. but for a wedding i think that both should be digtal (so you can see the result straight away)

imho a 50mm f1.8 is essential too, perhaps a 85mm f1.8 too
enough batteies and chargers and memory
lens cleaning cloths

but agian that is just the beginning

Ugg, sunsets shoots are really hard, even for the most experienced among us. Keep an eye on the light, because it's changing second by second. My advice would to be to go and do some sunset shooting with people standing in as models. It's really a hard one.

I love sunset wedding, as long as I have my flash situated off cam. It's quite challenging, though because of the point mentioned by littlegal. But, if done properly, images will be stunning and dramatic.

Share your takes after this assignment.

I do lots of sunset portraits. I use my fl-50 flash mounted on a custom bracket. I have the camera on manual metering and expose for the sunset background; flash is on auto dialed down a stop. Go out and do some test shots at sunset and get an idea of how the flash will work with the ambient light of sunset.....You may also want to try a few without flash and underexposed a bit to get that siloutte look at sunset.

The sun's direct light is extremely orange and difficult to correct in post processing (at least it is out here). The shade will be extremely blue by comparison. Best to shoot when the sun is either behind something or a bit higher in the sky, unless you want the effect. It's a very raking light, good for some things but not always the easiest to work with.
