There is an authenticity about this series that really appeals to me, as well as - I don't know quite how to describe it - perhaps a mixture of pride in workmanship and just plain having some fun at what they are doing.

I imagine that these workers might look on this as a production version of sculpting, and they do get to move around more than your typical assembly line worker. They also may have had a choice about what kind of career they wanted, or may simply have opted to go into the family business, as it were, and are working with people they know and love. It is entirely possible that they are indeed as happy as they look. You may not be as happy as they are, but you are also from a different kind of society and may have a different makeup from these people. Even if you had been born into a society like this one, you may - and probably would have - chosen a different way to support yourself, which is a good thing: there is a market for only a limited number of brickmakers.
