Default SEL 70-300mm

Does anybody else have this lens?
If so, has anybody tried a panning shot? My attempts so far have not been good. Even if the AF-C is on target, the picture still doesn't look sharp. Should I turn off the IS, or does it recognise a pan?

Tony, I've got this lens but I haven't done any panning. Results otherwise are satisfactory.

If this is a sample of the lens, I really do not see much of a problem. I suspect this was a very long shot. In my admittedly limited experience the greater the distance the more an image appears soft. This is a much better result than I have been able to attain with telephoto lenses for birds ion flight.
