Neat forum, I am glad to see a place for the newbies to get their feet wet. I am not a newbie as I have been dabbling in photography since the early 60s and I have done a lot of "lurking" as a quiet member of Camel for several years. If I can help or better yet be helped by posting here I will certainly do so.

Thanks for the list of acronyms, just one small addition, you gave credit to Canon for the IS (image stabilization) acronym, you need to give equal time to Nikon for VR (Vibration Reduction). Can you maybe tell what brand of camera I prefer?

Max,

I fully concur that ones choice of camera is not important, it is what you do with the camera that counts.

I have been a Nikon user since the late 60s, I started with a Nikon FTN and a Nikkormat. My first digital camera was a Nikon CoolPix, then I graduated to a D100 then to a D200. Once you get a stable of lenses it becomes hard (read expensive) to change brands.

Paul Shields,

I notice on your list that you have NAS (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome) listed. Maybe you should add CAS (Canon Acquisition Syndrome) to the list also. There ya go Max, I gave Canon equal time.

I've also seen the more generic "Gear Acquisition Syndrome", but do you really want to say you have "GAS"?
