I chose the great Greta Garbo as my inspirational subject.
The picture I was imitating was one of the publicity shots for the movie "Mata Hari". It was taken by Clarence Sinclair Bull in 1931 (or 1932 depending on the source).
You can see the original HERE.

And here is my rendition:

That does it Johnny. You go on the official "I hate you" list. I hate all of you folks who have real talent.

You may tell your lovely model this does not place her any where near the list.

Okay, (grudgingly) beautiful shot.

lol Frank, I'm with you!

JOHNNY - I think you did fabulous here, great job! One thing - burn down her lips a little more because those women wore dark red lipstick back then a lot of the time. It's one of the things, imo, that sets that era off as something different.

Great lighting and beautiful model.

Just a quick comment on the excellent work posted here so far. Each poster should be proud of what he or she has shared. Of course I am jealous.

As a side note, one reason the lips were so dark in so many of the old shots was the use of Kodak's Pan X (Panchromatic X) film. It rendered reds very dark. (Did I get that right Ed?)

OK - (deep breath) - I gave it a try, finally.

And, following in Johnny's footsteps, I found a portrait that was a little 'different', and attempted to copy it, using my daughter as a model. I picked this one of the beautiful Hedy Lamarr.

This was a total blast to do. Even my daughter enjoyed it.
