This is from ten years ago when I had my first digital and started learning the no-film world. Please, be critical-That's what I signed in for.

I like it. A bit of glare in the hair. A bit of softness is the eyes. But I like the pose and the exposure.

Probably on camera flash? Maybe the cameras pop-up flash? It creates harsh shadows, and "too" bright spots, like on the hair, as noted. Need to diffuse more and move the light a bit.

It is a wonderful capture but the eyes are a little soft. I hope you don't mind my edit.

1. Create duplicate layer, apply "Smart Sharpen" in "lens blur" mode 142% , 7.2 pixel. Mask this so that it only sharpens his eyes.

2. Flaten layers and create a new history state (snapshot). Setting this as the basis for the history brush use a light brush ~5% to "paint" the brighter parts of the iris in "screen" mode, the darker bands and pupils in "multiply" mode.

3. Use a flat brush with clone tool to re-shape and minimize the distracting central catchlight in his eyes.

4. Make a duplicate layer again, apply "unsharp mask" to taste, and mask it so it only hits the eyes.
