I was born and raised on a farm and was once asked the question quite seriously as to why farmers put gateways in the muddiest part of a field.
Real question: "Why were so many Civil War battles fought in National Parks?"

Considering that the American Civil War (referred to with different names in some parts of the country, i.e. "The War Between the States") began in an era when war was still akin to theater, that isn't actually too bad of an explanation. The first Battle of Bull Run (also "the first Battle of Manassas") had an audience picnic-goers on the grass. It didn't end well for them, naturally...

War is still "akin to theater". Now we watch it on Cable TV ie: the "Military Channel" and we give war theatrical names such as "Shock and Awe".

Myself, I wish they'd pave asphalt paths into wilderness areas for easier access. It gets tiring carrying all that gear to take a picture.

Hey Alfred D (or should I call you W.Smith - I know you're the same person so make your mind up ). When you were on here as Rokcet Scientist about a year ago I'm pretty sure traffic wasn't 10 times busier. Maybe it was due to you posting under so many names .
