Backups are a lifeline to our priceless photo collection. But Hard Drives are the riskiest - RAID or otherwise.
I have started backing up to 1000-Year M-Discs as these have become cheaper.
Thanks God my 4K Toshiba Laptop has a Blu Ray Burner that can burn M-Discs.
I currently use 25 GB Discs as these are cost effective. I burn only the "Keepers" to M-Discs and not the entire SDXC Card to save time, space & cost.
Here is my Backup Strategy:
a) Download the days work to my Laptop. Currently I have 3 to 4 years of my work here - all Keepers only.
b) The moment the Card is full it is backed up to an External Hard Drive.
c) All Keepers from the Laptop get burned to M-Discs as soon as I have about 25 GB of photos. Please Google M-Discs if you wish to know more.
d) Approx 12% of the Keepers - the Grandes - get printed on 6 x 4 inch photos with some of the best even to A4 size. This is the best archival strategy. My lab ensures he uses 100-year photographic paper with color fast ink - contracted with him.
e) The Grandes & For Posterity (mostly family photos) goes on the Cloud.
Since I am not a PRO, this Backup strategy is pretty safe for me.
Thanks for reading. Perhaps this may help Amateur Photographers.

I could have been worse, suppose you dropped the passport, its big brother stopped working and while you were getting the new seagate your house was on fire: always have a backup not in your house and a backup in the cloud.

Here is my RAID device, which is primarily a debugging tool.
