24-135/2.8-4.5 Sigma, EF mount
for use on Sony FF. I was happily
surprised that this oldie was NOT
so old that it would be "film only,
EOS mount", a sad end of many
old Sigmas for Canon. No similar
problems with ancient Nikon and
Maxxum mount AF Sigmas.

I was not toadally surprised, cuz
its 24mm wide end ... instead of
the earlier common 28mm ... is
some tip off that this was one of
the younger oldies, young enuf
to cross over the "digital divide".

Most other 3rd party oldies used
Canon licensed FW and tho' made
during the film era they also work
on digital bodies, same as every
ancient Canon brand lens. Sigma's
reverse engineered firmware was
unfortunately not futureproof :-(

There are very few reviews on it,
and those few all declared it to be
"disappointing". I do wonder just
what their expectations of it were.
Anywho, I've never needed a super
lens to make very fine pix. Most of
its real deficits are ergonomic and
the AF is noisy. It does inform the
Sony IBIS as FL changes, and the
coatings seem very effective. Less
distortion than most modern wide
ratio zooms. Likewise as to corner
shading. IOW, one could easily do
worse for fully ten times the price.

You can find these for $75 to 100
and they are most certainly worth
at least that in practical terms. I'd
already been using an EF to Sony
adapter, so that was not any extra
expense for me.

It has been a banner couple of weeks on buying things. Gently used Olympus OM-D-EM-10, Remote control for Nikon D800, 2 batteries for Olympus, another battery charger, a bunch of ND and graduated filters to fit several lenses with step-up rings up to 82mm, A Ruggard 6 filter holder, Vivitar 8 SD card holder, LowePro 200AW sling bag and some extra Extreme SD cards.

The small-size Rocket-Air blower by Giotto. Strictly for blowing dust off the camera's exterior; I believe I'd do more harm than good if I tried anything like that around the sensor.
