I'm a wedding photographer, and for years, I felt like I was in a creative rut. Then I began to study the work of Joel Grimes and his signature 3 light edgy portrait work. I started doing some similar portrait work, and I've found my creative voice again... it's fun again. I've started adding some "edginess" to my wedding portraits. It's different.

Ernst, thanks for that name. I didn't know her and from what I managed to find on the internet, definitively a name to remember.

Do you happen to know in what format her main work was done? From the look I'd would have guessed some large-format camera, possibly a 4"x5".

I suggest you read, "Edward S. Curtis, Photographer of the North American Indian" by Victor Boesen and Floence Curtis Graybill. You will have even more respect and admiration for his photography. The book is probably out of print. I suggest Amazon or abebooks.com

Korman, Thanks for looking her up, not many people know of her. Not sure what format she was using. My mentor was very close with her and the lst image that inspired me to become a photographer was taken by her, it was called Easter Morning and that image is still with me.

Uncle Bill, Just finished reading Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher. Wonderful read about Edwards life. Not only was he a wonderful portrait photographer he had a very modern eye for his time.
