Default Printing Help

Ok I took some pics of my daughter yesterday and photoshoped them. I aslo cropped the pic. The problem is when I try to print the pic it cuts off part of her head or legs. What I am doing wrong? Im trying to print a 4x6 pic. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you crop them to the same proportion you are trying to print?

If you want to print 5x7 the crop has to be 5x7, etc.

This is one of the reasons I love Qimage and never, ever print without using it. With Qimage the cropping is "soft" (does not change original image), so you can re-crop according to what you want to print at the time. If Mike is still running a free trial period I recommend trying it.

First, make a copy of the photo, that way you can keep the original for later.

Then look at the very top of the screen when you pick your crop tool, there you will see a space to enter both the width and height in inches.

Look at the top of the screen, enter the ratio there.

Another vote for Qimage. Can't remember when I last printed a photo without it.

With Qimage, if you (for example) cropped a photo square but had chosen a 5x7 print size, you'd see what you were going to get as soon as you loaded your incorrectly-cropped photo to the print queue. Next to impossible to be surprised by the final print when you use this program. Also great for photo greeting cards, photo note cards, album pages, etc.

30-day free trial on QI Lite, Pro, & Studio. 14 days on QI Ultimate. Good recommendation, Alan.

Not shilling for QI here, just a very satisfied user.

You did not say what camera you are using. If, like me, you use an Olympus, or most P&S cameras, then your image ratio is not 3:2 but 4:3. The only way you are going to print a 4x6 from a 4:3 image is if you allowed extra room for cropping to 3:2.

On the other hand, if you are using a DSLR that has a 3:2 image, when you want to do an 11x8.5 you are going to have to crop heads and legs unless you allowed for the crop when taking the photo.

So, it is six of one, and a half dozen of the other. You just have to realize that you are going to have to make an oversize image and crop to your paper size if you are printing in a different ratio than your camera sensor has.
