Default Proper Lady

Nappy was fortunate enough to be the subject of an "ah ha" moment for me. I was running around the house with the flash on a bracket and I turned it around to bounce. I'd never done that before. She was laying there so pretty with her legs crossed.

What a sweet face she has, Lori.
And the lighting on her is nice. Lots of detail in the black fur and nice catchlights, too.
It's cropped a little tight for my taste.

Thank you Tina. I agree with the crop, that's the lazy way of post prossessing a yucky surrounding.

I am not sure I understand what you mean here... Did you aim the flash behind you and bounce it off the wall/ceiling? The shadows look very diffuse, not hard and sharp, which gives a nice effect!

I've been playing around with using higher ISO settings and using A Better Bounce Card the "wrong way." Rather than having the flash point straight up at the ceiling and the "cup" of the bounce card face the subject, I've been pointing the flash head at a side wall and having the "cup" of the bounce card aimed up a the ceiling. The result is an image that does not look like flash was used at all (though depending on the wall color may need some white balance correction.) Thank you Michael.

Eric, I did rotate the flash head backwards. Even in its straightest form, there is still a slight angle. It was on the stroboframe and bounced off the ceiling. My kitchen ceilings are 9 or 10 ft. and they are white. My thought was the angle that the light bounced from the ceiling in comparison to if the flash head was turned the right direction made the difference. I will experiment with that though.

Really nice picture and title. I love the lighting and colors. The eyes appear a bit soft, but it works!
Nicely done!

Oh - I forgot to say - great results! I like how the diffused lighting from above shows the textures of the fur! I've had lots of fun lately playing around with somewhat unconventional uses of flash and had some pretty interesting results.

Nappy is a beauty. I would vote for more room too but that doesn't take away from pretty girls' look. well captured!
