Default 'Vegas' Aqha Gelding - collage help?

Feedback please, yes the head is suppose to be lower than the norm, he is an AQHA Western Pleasure horse.

Would really like pointers on how to do collages better.

Gorgeous horse. I specially love that great black and white profile low key shot (#3).

As for tips on doing better collages; Do an image search and look at other collages out there. Pick out the ones that really attract you and copy what you see. After doing a couple of them you will get into a routine and you will start adding your own touches to them. It's faster than trying to reinvent the wheel, sort of speaking. Since you are using your own photos, you can't call it plagiarism.

Yep, agree, I've been out looking, but I must have a photographer block here, feel like I need a design class or something... seems like a big hole in my knowledge!

Thanks for the feedback!

Good creative collages are not easy to pull off. For me, I tend to move elements around until I see something that I like. But before I even do that I make my selection of the images I want to use. The key is to keep the collage visually simple. The fact that it has multiple views of the subject is enough to create visual interest. Usually two or three images are enough. Although I will end up using only two or three in the final product I will select a few more just to see which ones work together better. Of those I will usually have one already picked out to be the main focal point.

As I move images around I look for several things; to say I look for how the images interact with each other is over simplifying it. I look at the edges and how they flow together, keeping in mind that I can burn areas of the secondary image to force it to recede. I look at scales between elements keeping in mind that the main subject doesn't always have to be the largest, or in the center for that matter.

Some of the easiest collages to make are those that use two images. The main image is usually a three quarter view while the second, background, is a side profile. The background image is usually the larger of the two but is given a certain amount of transparency in order to subdue it. The main image, while smaller, is usually placed in a position that doesn't obscure the background alot, often being framed by some element of it.

Hope some of this helps.

Yes it does - give me specific things to look for, and that is a big help! Thank you.
