I wish those 3 shots were some of my first I really like them. I think with pets all I try to do is capture their personality in the pics, which you've done a good job at. You could try just filling the frame for a change since you have good expressions that come through the eyes,

Thanks so much! the third one is Maverick my heart dog. He would sit forever and let me take pics.

Try to acertain the limits and the tradeoffs. What works for one photograph may do harm to another. For example I sometimes increase the color saturation on flowers just a tad. It helps brighten colors but it degrades white, grey, and earth tones in general. For some flower shots the colors start off as bright as you would ever want them. Increasing color saturation on pet photos can often ruin them. I sometimes try to sharpen pet photos just a tad. Too much brings out speclels and enhances noise. Histogram changes can be very effective if you know what you are doing.
I should probably do less reading and more photography taking. My boys are like a bride and groom wrapped into one. With the black and white I often blow out the white. I have used auto sharpen but it does not seem to change much.

I noticed on one of the posts that you are teaching yourself photoshop. As a self educated photoshop nut, my hat is off to you! I have been using PS since version 4 and still have much to learn. Trial and error are your friends. If it works, remember what you did. If it didn't, see if you can figure out why.
If you have problems please ask. I'm sure that among the members of this board alone, there is PS help available.
You are not alone in the world of PP.

Thanks so much!!!
I find it a bit frustrating sometimes. I have two books that I have gone through. I have signed up for classes, but they have been canceled twice due to lack of enrollment. I google lots on the web too. For my dog pics the only things that I have been doing is using adjustment layers to change the levels in the histogram, brightness, and contrast. I am leaving on Monday for Vancouver, Canada to see my daughter so I will be taking my first people pics. And loads!!! of them. I will have to learn a lot more photoshop.
