Unhappy Removing film cartridge from Pentax ME Super?

Hello.
I found my mother's old Pentax ME Super camera, but now I'm having some trouble with it. After reading some instructions about the camera online, I attempted to remove the current film cartridge (by pressing the little silver button on the bottom, rewinding the lever, and then the back popped open). However, when i attempted to remove the film with my fingers, it appears to be stuck. I can see that the "pole" from the top is holding the cartridge stuck, but no matter what try, i cant get the film out..

It is very possible the camera is broken, or that i did something wrong.
I know to everyone else here this probably all sounds very stupid, but I'm new to this and i would really love to save my moms old camera so please help!

Thank you in advance.

Easy, wish you would ask a hard question!

I cut my teeth on a K-1000 and later an ME Super... both were wonderful cameras!

So, Ill start from the start...

You are done with taking pictures, now it's time to rewind. Flip up the cute little lever on the left top and press the silver metal detent button on the bottom and wind clockwise until all your film is back inside the canister, you can usually tell by feel and/or sound ( I think you already got this far...)

Next you need to remove the film.. The little twisty lever you used to rewind your cartridge, PULL STRAIGHT UP and it will remove the guide from within the film canister allowing you to remove the cartridge. It should slide out to a solid stop, it should be pretty easy to tell when you have it all the way out.

If this isnt the data you are looking for, let us know..

GL,
Andrew

If I read exactly what you say above, the camera back
was not properly closed and latched while rewinding
the film.

Pressing the RW button and then rewinding the film is
all in good order. But "...then the back popped open..."
is a bad signifier.

When you rewound film, the RW knob was down flush
against the ISO dial. In order to unlatch and open the
back, one must pull upward on the knob [sometimes a
safety lever, or button, must be pushed to permit this].
I do not see in your post where you ever unlatched
the back by lifting up the RW knob.

Since the knob is not raised, the fork prongs on the RW
shaft are still inside the film supply spool, which resists
your effort to remove the film cassette. Raise the knob
and the cassette should release.

When pulling up the knob you may feel mild resistance
by a spring. Thaz OK. [Not all models have the spring.]
