SMC Pentax-F 50mm Lens Test
6 Attachment(s)
The Fed-Ex truck brought me three lenses I bought from a man in Yorktown, Virginia. Among them was a SMC Pentax-F 50mm f: 1.4, a SMC Pentax-F 70-210mm and a Takumar-F 28-80mm Macro.

I already had the 70-210mm and the Takumar 28-80mm, but the one I was really excited about was the 50mm f:1.4 lens.

I have a fair collection of 50mm lenses, but this was one that was lacking in my lineup.... and I was anxious to see if it lived up to it's billing. So, I set up a little test to see what it was capable of.

Granted, this isn't anything that would qualify as a "professional test" of any sort, but I thought it would give me an indication of what it could do.

All the shots were from a distance of 12". It was with natural light coming from a patio door about three feet to the right. My focus point was the longest purple petal, at about the 5 o'clock position. ISO was a constant 800 for all shots, with shutter speeds going from 1/640th to 1/3.3 sec.Attachment 256096

It was shot with a Pentax K-50, with the camera set on "Natural" in the Custom Image with my preferred settings in that mode. In my editing, all I did was sharpen the image, Strength: 150, Radius 1.5.

These are all full frame. Take a look and see what you think. I was a little disappointed at it's lack of sharpness at f:1.4. Otherwise, I thought it did very well, especially at f:22.

The images attached to this post begin at f:1.4, f: 2.0, f: 3.5, f: 4.5, f: 6.3 & f: 8. The following four shots are in the above post.
