Default Pentax Sweeps Nikon.

I came across an interesting comparison test of the new APS-C Pentax K3 vs the Full Frame Nikon D600.

An excerpt from the comparison:

"Our testing shows that the Pentax K-3 swept the Nikon D600 in almost every image we took. Even at high ISOs the Pentax held its own against the full frame sensor!"

Dang! Pretty impressive. Wish I could afford one. Oh, well.... When the prices drop.

I usually buy the older cameras when the price drops after the release / announcement of a new model.

You've discovered my secret.

I just got a K-01, just before prices started to rise. Apparently, people are now realizing that the admittedly ugly exterior hides a rather capable camera.

I don't do much video, and I will use my DSLR for action shots, so I don't care about the video issues or the relatively slow focus. I'm impressed by the IQ, and by the controls, which are a bit more intuitive than those on my K20d.

Oh, and the newer kit lens is much better than the one that came on my *istDS.

Interestingly enough I also bought a K01 with 40mm 2.8 pancake lens a few months ago for $300. At that price (it was originally over $800), I thought it was a steal. It is a very capable camera but I don't think it got a fair shake because most folks considered it ugly..

I have never shot a Nikon so I can't say much about the story posted but coming from a 3/4 worn out K7 to a K3 all I can say is WOW. Frame rate, focus tracking, dual S/D slots and the list goes on. I love my K7 dearly and what a workhorse she has been, but she doesn't belong in the same sandbox with the K3.

**WARNING** If you do so happen to try a K3, your mouth will forever water

Congrats on your new K3 and welcome to the Camel Allen.
Would love to see some of your K3 shots.

Enjoy the K3, looks like a great tool, but I'll take your advise and admire if from afar

I am a great admirer of the K3 and while there is no question that it is an outstanding performer, these photos don't demonstrate a sweep for me. To my eye, the Nikon shots have about 1/3 to 1/2 stop greater exposure which tends to desaturate the image. Also, there is a bit more noise in the out of focus areas at 100% in the Pentax shots than the Nikon. In the three images I downloaded at full resolution the point of focus was different for each camera in each shot. I downloaded the Post, barbed wire and berries. Amazingly little difference I admit comparing a doubling of sensor size but certainly not a sweep. Given that they were apparently hand holding and not focusing on exactly the same spot and not matching density, hard to use this as a very accurate comparison. No question that the K3 is a camera Ricoh/Pentax should be proud of however.

I certainly wouldn't call it a sweep, especially since they both rely on Sony sensors.
