I never buy stuff for immediate need. I buy
it when it goes on clearance. Sooo for those
who've been limping along on nothing but a
zoom lens or two, "Hear Ye, Hear Ye !" :

A Panasonic 25/1.7 is only $150 lately so I
ordered one, and having checked it out, it's
a keeper:

AF is very quick, at least on my Pen-F. I didn't
use it on anything else yet. There's practically
no corner shading at f/1.7. None at all as seen
here at f/2.8, and for the peepers, here's the
central and corner areas at original rez:

Acoarst the subject matter in the corner doesn't
all lay in the focus plane at f/2.8, but I can see
enuf to find that for real world shooting it's way
more than good enuf, even ignoring the bargain
pricing

Nice & sharp photos.
Looks like that lens is a keeper.
For $150, its a steal.

You can't tell or check chromatic aberrations with an image or purple glass frames

The huge problem with real world pix is that they
often fail to accentuate all of the horrible flaws
that we all know in our hearts render our bargain
lenses useless .......

Here's a few more failures from my trashy lens:

faces shot using a normal lens.

Look close enuf and it's there:

......... there, but hardly there

All pix taken within minutes of each
other, so all at f/2.8 and at ISO640.

I bought the same lens tonight from BestBuy for $147.99. It is advertised on the website at that price but you have to have the local stores price match or it rings up at $249.95. I have tried it out a little tonight and think it is a keeper. I just bought a Sigma Art 60mm 2.8 with very little use for 92.00 a couple of days ago so I now have the 25mm 1.7 Panasonic and the 60mm 2.8 Sigma Art to go with the kit lens 14-42 and 40-150 to fit on my Panasonic G5 and the Olympus EPL1. I will take the Panny and my Nikon gear to Ireland in August.

Update: 25mm 1.7 is a wonderful lens. I have not picked up my Nikons since buying the 25mm 1.7 and the Sigma Art 60mm 2.8 for my Panasonic G-5.

Some photos from the Panasonic G5 with the 25mm f1.7 Panasonic lens. It is definitely a keeper.

Never been there, but it's my impression that
Ireland is more about the people and social
interaction than about garden flowers. If I'm
not toadally wrong about that, then that fast
lens on a small camera should be perfect

The Nikon would be just a waste of jet fuel.

We are concentrating on Dingle Peninsula and places within a few miles of that spot. I am taking Nikon gear also as we are going to be shooting in the sunset hours with a professional photographer who is going to take us places well off the beaten track. My wife wants some landscapes for PPA competition and she is much more comfortable with the heavier Nikon gear so we will take both systems. I just bought a nice backpack for the Panasonic gear so I will carry light and wife will carry heavy----oh wait, I bet she will carry the Panny stuff and I will get to carry the heavy backpack.
