Question Tripod Collar Ring.

I was looking to buy a 70-200 lens, looked at all the makes and liked the reviews I read on the Tokina model until I looked to see if they had a tripod Collar Ring for that model,I found that they do have one,but to my amazement it cost $229.How on earth can they justify that price, there lenses are good and also a lot cheaper than Nikon and Canon. The Nikon collar is around $169,but $229 for a collar is just highway robbery. If I invest in the lens I will see if any 3rd party makes one to fit this lens,I dont usually buy cheap accessories but in this case it looks like I will have to,although I have browsed a few site online,I have yet to find one.

If you do find one you will save ... what ? ... $100 ?
And likely regret it ? Essentially, the whole Tokina
package has a combined bottom line, which either
appeals to the buyer, or it doesn't.

Thanks for the reply Golem,I suppose if you take the lens price and the collar price..$899 & $229 making a total of $1128 it is still cheaper than all the others lenses of this size except one by Tamron. As I said in my thread,I don't care to buy 3rd party equipment because they usually don't last long.So thanks again for your comments.

If I needed a $229 tripod collar, I'd consider making a wooden cradle with the lens secured to it with metal bands or perhaps bungee cords

That would never have occurred to me.

When I was looking for a tripod ring for my Canon EF 70-200mm f4, IS lens, I looked on ebay. The Canon ring was also very pricey for what it is. I bought a ring for less than $25.00 from a Chinese company. It fit exactly on the lens, was the same "Canon white" paint as the lens, and had a Canon stamped label. However the label spelled Canon, as Cannon. Otherwise, an exact copy of a original Canon ring.
