where do i see all this education going to? easy, home based national or state level schooling. as broadband becomes the de fecto standard for intnet connection the public system will be merged with home based learning. the cost savings alone will be immense.

i am a dreamer and a futurist. think of it. you print you school books so the cost of printing is saved. updating the textbooks is simple and cheap. thus it does not take years to get them updated. instead of school buildings kids will log on from home. parents will be able to get all updates and progress reports in email.

but first we have to accept that our preconceived notions of how school is supposed to be, might be outdated.
I work in the local school district as a programmer, web designer, and photographer. Working in the technology field I find your comment interesting and intriguing. With the growth in our area, I could see something like this becoming reality before too long.

All of our kids work is already online. We know the exact details for each day of school. We know what all the homework is going to be as well. Progress reports come by mail and e-mail. We have access to each teacher through e-mail and get responses in less than 24 hours. Sometimes we have them the same day or even that evening. Our kids are in the computer program so there are no textbooks either. Everything is online or CD/DVD based. As an example Microsoft Encarta on DVD is used heavily for school work. Having said all that our school system is still so screwed up with politics at the board and teacher level it's insulting. The technology is there/here which is fantastic but it's how the system works that makes it so terrible. Could I make it any better? Probably not but I'd give it one heck of a try if I could.

Oh ya, one more thing about the online stuff. When we take trips during school or the kids are sick they can simply log on to the school network and do all class work/homework in front of a PC or Notebook. When they are done they turn it in while online. Done. Each of our kids has a desktop PC and a Notebook with high speed online access from home and the road so they really don't have any excuse to not do their work, no matter what.

Jon.

Bowling is a growing social pastime here in the states that requires both a high degree of focus and a healthy sense of humor.

Surely, I would be on television if I could do that as well.
