It is.
And have your theology ready as well.
And the DaVinci Code isn't gonna count as a religious authority we'll agree.

Brian
Does a belief in God matter.
I say yes, without God youare essentially a collection of chemicals.
Big Band (oops Big Bang theory-bad typo)Theory and all that. So what does it matter if there is no God.

So my position is that is all that matters, or at least what is most important and all things are secondary to that.
Agree so far?

Read it. Just as it is. I'm not asking you to read outside your own bible. But look. And see.
But I already know you won't.
I swear I won't take anything you say personally if you promise to not lash out.

Sola scriptura-roughly is the belief that all truth and knowledge can be found in the Bible at least regarding religion.
I don't believe in that. DOn't get me wrong, but that isn't a Catholic belief. And my views are admittedly dogmatic here.

So I'm not getting in a Bible quoting war. Not my gig. I think you can find great wisdom there. But you won't find everything, so it has to come also from a belief system outside the Bible as well.
With me?

Well actually we do agree (kinda):

Mark 40 ad
Thomas 40ad
Mary 40ad
They all said the same thing.

Then:
Matthew 300 ad
Luke 400 ad

Then the way out there versions John/Revalations 800 ad.

I believe the closest you will find to true history, is the versions closest to Christ.

Personally,
I don't care what your believes are.

As long as you don't get fanatical about it or trying to force me to share them.

The main problem isn't who's right, it is when people become fundamentalists (of whatever religion) and no longer can accept "live and let live".

Peace and love everybody, whatever faith or religion you might follow.

(And if you are against the big bang, remember that the very same group of people that now defies it also were against the "new" thoughts about a round earth circling the sun. And why couldn't God have jump-started things with a big explosion?)

And how do you know I won't read what you ask me to.
How much do you really know me?
Let's get to know each other right here. I'm in.

Nobody's gonna ask you to do anything here. But you will agree that there is a right to defend your position or to speak out against what is right or wrong?

Oh good Lord, who said anything about a Novel. We are talking history here. Real, recorded (even if you didn't read it) history.

How do I say this nicely......I can't give you a Masters Degree on Theology without you doing the study. And even if you sat through all the classes, maybe you aren't conditioned to hear the answers. The major word hear being "Conditioned".

I'll answer any question/ grievence you have, but I can't fill you in on 4000 years of history or major religions. There are 4 Jesus stories before Jesus was ever born. But you won't read them so I won't bother.

I've studied Religion for much of my adult life, so I won't bother you with details you would rather not know.

Go on believing as you do. My only plea is that you don't put your beliefs on the 85 percent of the world who believes differently than you.

Fair?

OK

But who is going to tell us what is right and what is wrong?

Shall we have a vote?

Wow, is that really your answer. How could you know what my history knowledge is. I didn't ask you to fill in any history for me. And I didn't ask that you believe one single thing that I do. I was asking what you believe. You also don't have to express that either. But you were the one that started this thread. If you don't want a discussion fine. I can assure you my knowledge of history is more than rudimentary.

Why did you start this thread?
