I won one at work. I won one at work :P

I don't have one. The Wife does. A iPod Mini. They don't make the Mini no more. Replaced it with a smaller Nanon one I guess. Anyway, she loves it, her iTunes software, and she gets her music from CD's or from iTunes themselves I guess.

Congrats on your win! I don't have a portable mp3 player, but I do have a Linux box in the basement that has all my tunes ripped to VBR mp3/flac, and I use a great piece of software called SlimServer to access them over TCP/IP so I can listen to my music while at work or around the house.

As an aside, I've not bought into the iTunes way of paying for tunes. I find it mildly insulting that a song that was originally released in CD quality is downsampled to 128kbs and resold for effectively the same price (or more!). My ears are pretty shot from years of loud music, but even I can tell the difference. But maybe that's for another thread... :-\.

I just use my Sony TH-55 PDA, biggest screen of any MP3 player!

With a 512mb Memory Stick Pro and an application called Pocket Tunes the sound quality is fantastic. If I like it plays in the background while I am checking email, surfing the net or reading a PDF version of my D200 manual.

I have an el cheapo FM modulator (for the car) that I plug my 1GB Jump Drive into. It works!

Jared, I though you only worked in a 2 man shop? And this was the first time you won in how many years?

I think this is the key to bitrate:

MP3 sound quality is roughly half as good as the aforementioned file types (WMA, AAC, ATRAC3, etc), so an MP3 file encoded at 320Kbps would be about equal with a WMA file encoded at 160Kbps.

Yeah, MP3's are kind of like...well...they are kind of like JPG's.

Not all JPG's are the same "bitrate". And not everybody uses JPG's. Some like other files types. Some like other files that are "sampled" much higher. Some like them because they look a bit better. Some because they must be better cause they are bigger, and others because they were told they are better.
