Need a great New Year Party dip? Try This!

Of all the dips I've ever tried, I think this is my favorite.

1 can of Hormel Chili with Beans
1 8 oz. package of Philadelphia Cream Cheese
1 cup chopped Sweet Vidalia onion
1/3 cup finely chopped Jalapeno pepper ( more or less, depending on how hot you like it)

.... I also like to add about 1/3 cup of Tostitos Salsa con Queso, but the original recipe didn't call for it.

Combine the chili and cream cheese and simmer until the cheese is thoroughly melted, then add the rest of the ingredients and let it continue to simmer for about 15 minutes.

Serve with tortilla chips.

**** I might add that this concoction makes a great topping for a baked potato! :afro:

Can't wait for an occasion to try it out. Great photo to accompany the recipe!

When you get around to trying it out, let me know your opinion of it. Personally, I've learned by trial and error that using any onions other than the sweet variety does not suit my palate at all! Especially the red onions..... they leave a very unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth. But, to each his own, I suppose.

Happy New Year!

You have a solution to the overpotent onions that suits you, but you might also experiment with sautéeing the onions a bit before mixing them with the other ingredients. This converts some of the onions' potency into a softer and milder flavor and caramelizes the sugar in them.

Very good idea! I've got to make another batch for New Years, so I'll give it a try.
