Separate to this scam, you need to be careful about shipping stuff using Paypal going forward. The rules have just changed/about to change giving buyers up to six months to put in a claim for none delivery etc. Mostly Paypal award the buyer rather than the seller...

Hmmmm - two YES votes. Wonder if they both live in Nigeria.

It's a scam. Nigeria is the first clue; different name the second. With paypal, you have seller protection only if you ship to the exact name and address listed in the paypal account. And a few other things like using a signature service over a certain dollar value (I think $750).

Don't you dare ship it !!! (if it's about the money I'll spot you a few bucks till you sell it just joking)

Seriously though,,, Craigslist is best for selling within the proximity of your home. It's not a site that can police their own traffic like ebay.
I use both ebay and Craigslist quite allot. Craigslist is my 'bulletin board on the web' kinda site.. It can be great for a cash only or trade agreement, done in person, in a public place and with the understanding that it's for an as is sale.
That said I don't buy much here, like two purchases in the last year. Both successful thank GOD.

Ebay, on the other hand, affords me a user history. There I always view the member's buyer and seller activity in conjunction with that members feedback score (below 95% you'd need hundreds of transactions or you'd lose me).

So that said, if I were there to buy your camera (wish I had the money cause it's a cool camera ) I'd go straight to your feedback as a seller and see just how many items you've sold in that price range with good results.

Hope that I'm not preaching to the choir cause I consider you a pretty sharp fellow. But I hope this helps.

GOD Bless
Joe

Ten years ago someone in London(?) tried this scam on a guy in the US. The American was selling his Powerbook and asked if the offer sounded legit on a popular forum. They all said it was a scam, and someone suggested sending something. So, with the forum posters egging him on, he shipped the scammer a P-p-p-powerbook "notebook" (made out of a real notebook) instead, declaring it for the full amount, and making the scammer pay $200 in customs fees.

None of the links work for anyone hosting the short story, but you can read the full story on the somethingawful forums.

It's long, but it's a thing of beauty. Really funny stuff.

"Please be self assured this is not a scam. I am a noble person with good intention of not stealing your well earned property. My offer is of legitimate nature and I assure you will be honorable. Please send camera to the address requested as I have made payments already. Thank you for following up on this. Your friends in Nigeria."

Unfortunately some people do fall for these scams. A buddy of mine almost fell for one of those "love interests" scams from a dating site. You know the kind, "I love you, please send money."

The good news (for most of us) is that the scammers knowingly pick outlandish scams. This helps ensure that when they do get a response, its a gullible victim who will go the distance, not a reverse scammer like the p-p-powerbook guy. Microsoft wrote a research paper on it a few years ago: Microsoft Research Mobile - Why Do Nigerian Scammers Say They are From Nigeria?
