Former Cal QB and journeyman Kyle Boller retires after one day of training camp:

Kyle Boller abruptly retires from San Diego Chargers - NFL.com

Guess he had enough.

Brian Billick, in a series of articles for NFL.com, cited failing to develop Kyle Boller as one of the key reasons he wore out his welcome in Baltimore, though Billick was quick to point out that he did a host of other things wrong as well.

My gut feeling / no useful information used to predict who will be in the Championship games for the upcoming season, are...

AFC: Texans & Bills
NFC: Eagles & Packers

Of course, we will have to wait for Michael's Super Duper NFL Contest (don't miss it, guys) to pick our favorites. But in the mean time this is how I see things going.

I don't see either the Bills or the Eagles getting that far. The other two teams I agree with.

If Reid stops his pass-pass-pass ways the Eagles could be very dangerous.

The Eagles need to get their locker room issues sorted out before they can be viewed as contendors. Just my .02

Speaking of "kids". Don't you find it rather strange for the not-so-old talking-heads to refer to young players as "kids".

Personally, I find it somewhat condescending. These "kids" are in their 20s for heaven's sake. They are grown men. They are not in KG, you know.

Must be a cultural thing.

In the U.S., "kid" is acceptable up until about the age of 25-26, especially if they are a pro athlete. Part of the culture of talking about sports, I guess. Young Americans are often taking longer to mature these days (I'm one of them, ), and pro athletes are an extreme example of this. NBA all-star center Dwight Howard is 26 but acts like he's 6 or 10.

Michael Craptree, er, I mean Crabtree, is hurt and missing training camp.

Four years, four missed training camps (rookie holdout, followed by injuries each offseason).

I'm thinking Crabtree might have peaked in that major upset by Texas Tech of highly-ranked University of Texas. Harrell to Crabtree feels like a lifetime ago.

Practice report, Day 2: Crabtree’s absence is glaring due to injury history | 49ers Hot Read

Former first-round pick Jeff Otah released by the Panthers.

Jeff Otah's Carolina Panthers contract terminated - NFL.com

Otah was traded to the Jets but could not pass a physical, so the Panthers were forced to cut ties with the No. 19 overall selection from 2008.

IIRC, Otah had a pretty good rookie season and was shaping up to be a good right tackle before his knee started giving him problems, and he missed almost all of the last two seasons.

Hopefully he can get healthy and play again.
