See, the thing about Ron Paul, is that, at first, he sounds pretty cool and reasonable. It is only when you really start to listen to him and study his policy ideas that you realize he lives in another century. His libertarian ideas will simply not work. He thinks it is so simple. Just remove government from most of our daily lives, and watch how things will improve.

In other words, he is a fruitcake. The same goes for his son, too.

The folks who think he's a "fruitcake", or that he's gone off deep end, are well conditioned thinkers.
Most people have trouble believing they can live without gov't in their lives. There are very few Americans still alive who would have even an inkling of what that could be like. We've had at least 70 years of massive gov't. I would argue the war between the states was the beginning of the end for individual liberty, but that would be getting a bit ahead of the topic. My point is, that generations of people are used to gov't being in every aspect of their lives, and know no other way of life. When someone comes along and suggests getting rid of gov't agencies/bureaucracies that have been around for generations, they think it's impossible, and the world will end.
I don't.

+2 A perfect example would be the citizens of New Orleans after Katrina.

I think he would be an interesting candidate, and I hope he'll make it to the ticket somehow. He may actually have a chance at getting a decent number of votes this election.
