A pleasant fruitcake. But all of the GOP candidates are pretty much nutcases. I guess Cain probably was polished off today with this latest sexual assualt thing that came out today. He might as well go home and cook up a pizza.

Republican?
Democrat?
There is the problem. Each party has the constituents of the opposition scared to death that they might win!
Have the courage not to vote for a major party.
If you're caught up in party voting, the country is lost.

He seems nice enough as a person. As a leader of this nation, weeeeeeellllll, he seems nice enough as a person.

My momma taught me, if you ain't got nothing nice to say about someone, well keep you pie hole shut.

You know what the problem with Obama's stimulus plan? It wasn't big enough. It should have been at least 3 or 4 times bigger than what it was- at the least, maybe even more. The economy was in such a shambles when he came into office that what he proposed was just a band-aid cure, nothing more.

FDR's policies saved this country and put it back to work. And all the Republican revisionist history tripe is just that- horseshit.

I will not vote for Obama again because he did not push the liberal agenda far enough.

I will not vote for a fruitcake like Ron Paul because he is nuts.

I plan on backing the Socialist Party candidate this time around. After all, according to you, the two party system is broke, so maybe you should consider joining me.

Look, this ain't Yesteryear, he ain't the Lone Ranger, and he damn sure would take this country back 100 years if he had his way.

I don't want to live in the past. He does.

I mentioned this once before. We should give all of you nuts your own place. Give you a separate state where you can abolish most government restrictions. Every man for himself. Your own private utopia. Give you exactly what you want and see how long you last as a civilized society.

Hey, don't ruin it...I think this is the first post I ever gave you Karma for...Your last paragraph of your first post is spot on...the productive of our society does, indeed, need such a place. 'Who is John Galt?'

Oh, and by the way, I don't care who you vote for. Texas will go Republican, no matter who the candidate is. For me, I'll write in Ron Paul. I might even shake it up a bit and go with Paul Ryan or Rand Paul...heck, maybe I'll employ some liberal strategies and vote for all three...

I'm still waiting for a response.....I have addressed DMThompson's comment in detail.
Can any one answer me, or do you all just like to throw cliches and talking points around?
Socialism has failed for a century now, yet some of you will cling to it unto death.
Rick WalDroup - You have referred to Ron Paul as being nuts more than once. How about some supporting evidence?
Can you back up your name calling?
Why do you think he's a "nut"?
Let's hear a reasoned argument. Something specific. Or do you simply re-iterate what you've been fed by your party?
There was a time when your kind were the revolutionaries. That was 90+ yrs. ago. You aren't revolutionary anymore. You're the old guard.......the old ideas......worn out, dis-proven, and sad.

I'm going to vote for him. I dissagree with some of his wants but he will not be operating independently.

Dems/Repubs? Different sides of the same wooden nickel.

If you like the fiat money system and the failing economy and having the nanny state telling you how to live keep voting for the one...errr... Two party system.

We are not a Democracy we are a Republic...the Occupy WAll street is what you get in a Democracy-mob rules, mob destroys.

As far as dumping more money [the bailouts]] into this economy...what money? We are close to 15 TRILLION dollars in debt and most of the companies that got bailouts moved to China or India or simply took the $$ and closed up shop.

You cannot *spend* your way out of debt. Think you can? Send me your credit cards and your bank account and I'll help you spend it.

You'll be living in a cardboard box by tax time at minimum.

Redistribution of wealth does not work...it is Communism/Socialism. THink of it like this-if you went to college and earned your A then at graduation time the college told you that you get a 'C' because others did not do as well and they wanted to equalize everyones' grades...

Or, for those of you who work for a living. You ever worked with a sloucher? The kind of person who does nothing but take up space and waste air? What if your worked on commission? So you been making lots of sales and bringing in the green and the sloucher has been asleep at the wheel so the boss tells you "I'm giving half of your money to the sloucher since he didn't make any money this paycheck and I will continue to do so as long as he works here."

That is what "Needed more bailout money" types are saying.

So, yes, unless I see someone who won't just sing it but bring it I'll vote for RP.

Better the attempt at Freedom and failure than intentionally being a submissive to tyranny.

I’ll start with the IRS.

As the owner of a small trucking company (ME!), I’m overwhelmed by regulations.
1) I pay the HVUT (Heavy Vehicle Use Tax). $550.00 per vehicle. The reasoning for this? I drive a big truck, and it’s hard on the roads. O.K…..
Which is fair. Heavier trucks on the roads means they need to be repaved more often.

2) I pay a $30 per tire excise tax on tires that cost $300 to begin with! My rig has 18 tires. That’s around $6,000.00 The reasoning behind this tax? I drive a big truck, and it’s hard on the roads. Hmmmm, I thought that’s what the HVUT was for…..
Do you mean when you buy a tire, or is this a general tax?

Quote:
3) I get to pay fuel taxes on fuel I “should’ve” purchased in other states. If for example I drive from Kansas to Illinois via Missouri, but I don’t buy any fuel in Missouri, I still get to pay a tax on the amount of fuel I “should’ve” bought in Missouri. Why? Because I drive a big truck and it’s hard on the roads in Missouri. Hmmmm……sounds fair, huh?

Do you pay fuel taxes to states you don’t by fuel from?
This is only the beginning….
Is that the reason for the tax? Yeah, in either case its dumb. And is that federal or local laws? Local laws are usually designed to screw the guy just passing through.

Let’s move on to the DOT/FMCSA

1) The DOT (as well as other L.E. entities) can pull me over anytime without probable cause, or reasonable suspicion. Apparently driving a truck is enough. They can delay me for hours if they choose. Can they do that to you?

2) The DOT routinely rouses drivers from their sleep to perform inspections on their trucks, or to look at their log books. Does the gov’t wake you up from your sleep to look at your papers?

3) Pro drivers have to keep a “log” of their time driving, their time sleeping, etc. They’re restricted to working only a certain number of hours per day/week, and they’re required to sleep a certain number of hours per day/week. You? Does the gov’t tell you how much you can work, and when you must sleep?

4) Vehicle inspections - Annually & randomly. I’m required to get a certified DOT inspection every year to make sure my truck is safe to drive. Even though I do this out of my own pocket, I’m still subject to random vehicle inspections anytime, anywhere, without a limit to the number of inspections I might be put through.
How about you & your vehicle?
Part of this is the wonderful world we live in, thanks to 9/11 and the homeland security act. As for regulatory hours for driving, they do this because when you get paid per run, you are going to cut corners. That includes driving when half asleep. So that is a good law. You are driving a small car, but a multi ton vehicle that can cause quite a bit of havoc if your driver falls asleep at the wheel. If I fall asleep at work, I get fired. If a truck driver falls asleep at work, people die.

As for inspections, airplanes are inspected every time they land. Should they not be? Some states, like NY, require yearly inspections of your vehicle.

Quote:
5) I’m required to be in a drug testing program, again at my expense. I get called in for a test and lose time & money. No limits on this either. I’ve never tested positive, I’ve always had clean record. Does this matter? NO! I’ve been called for testing as many as 6 times in a year!
How about you?

6) I am restricted from driving on a lot of roads due to weight restrictions. Sometimes this forces me onto toll roads.

7) Split speed limits. Some states post different speeds for trucks than cars. Hmmmm……cars traveling 10-15 mph faster than trucks on the same road. Yup, that makes sense. Traffic flows much smoother when vehicles are at different speeds…..MUCH safer too.
Again, from a safety aspect, while it does seem inconveinant, considering what could happen if they didnt test, you will find not many would feel sorry for you on this. If one guy causes an accident due to being on drugs, you know they will look at the whole industry. Its a CYA law. If they dont do this, and an accident occurs, there would be public outrage that testing wasnt done.

Sucks, but makes sense. People dont want a big rig rolling down their small streets. The streets were not designed for a 20 ton vehicle. Plus, most of the time, people dont want a big truck rolling through their neighborhood. Not to mention how much they slow down traffic if there are stop lights/signs along the way.

Ive never actually seen that. So I cant comment. They must have a logical reason, but Ill be darned if I can think of it.

8 )Trucks are often restricted from certain lanes on m multi-lane roads. Another real intelligent regulation! Makes getting on & off an Interstate so much more fun!
Its always the left lane. Ive seen them in NY and Florida. In NY, especially the mountain regions, they do it so their is a route around trucks going up or down a steep grade. Florida, its just because everyone likes to go 100 miles an hour. But in either case, Ive never seen it effect someone's ability to get on or off the interstate.

If you’d like me to continue……

The State I live in tells me;
I can't smoke in public, I must wear my seat belt, I have to pay a special tax to fund a sports stadium for a professional sports franchise, I can't hunt with a crossbow, I can't fish with more than one pole, I have to get a permit to voice my opinion on a public street, I need a permit to have a bonfire, I have to pay for clean drug needles for addicts, I can't purchase/use fireworks.........

Where doesn't gov't intrude into my life? What part of life is NOT regulated by gov't?
Give me an example of THAT, if you can.
Smoking is a choice.
Everyone has to wear a seatbelt. Its called safety, in case you do get in an accident.
Everyone does. And yes it is annoying. Heck, if I fly to certain cities and rent a car, there is a sports team facility tax.
Never heard of that law. Of course, Ive never tried fishing with more then 1 pole.

Honestly, probably 99% of the things you list is there because someone caused that law to be put on the books. Someone screwed up somehow, which caused a public outcry. So lawmakers did what their constituants wanted. As I said in another thread, or maybe this one, Im not sure, these are dummy laws. Someone was a dummy, so they made the law to hopefully keep the stupid at bay. But it effected everyone in that industry.
