Default What is an Fe2 worth?

I bought a Nikon FE2 in the mid eighties. The camera is still working and I use it with a motor drive and itīs great.

Is it worth a lot of money?

I recently borrowed a friendīs N 8008S, which I also like very much.

Which one is worth more or a better camera?

keh sells a fe2 with a md12 for about $325-350. a 8008s is about $120

i would take a fe2 over a n8008s

We used both FE 2s and N8008s for wildlife photography in their days. I prefer th N8008s, but this is an amateur camera in Nikon's terminology. We truly enjoyed the N8008s cameras we used and these worked well if we took good care of them.

As for value, I look on Keh's website or go to my local dealer. To me, the value of a camera is whether I use it and like it or not. I do not collect cameras and I do have favorites. Also, different cameras do different things better than others as you know. I always used F3s or F5s in the studio for scientific photography and N8008s in the field for wildlife. Just my personal preference. I felt I had to have a 1:1 viewfinder and optimum remote capabilities in the sudio and the F3s and F5s gave me this.

Tom......can you explain why an 8008 is an "amateur" camera?

Keep the FE-2. They are very good and reliable cameras.

Given that the camera's are in similar condition the FE2 has a higher value. However it is not worth a lot of money. As to which camera is better it would depend on each individual to make the choice. I think the obvious and big difference in the camera's is the styling and the auto focus/manual focus options. I prefer the FE2 myself. In my opinion the FE2 is a beautiful camera and the N8008s is an ugly duckling. The N8008s does have more features including an outdated auto focus ability. Both camera's are capable of bringing home terrific images. I bought a N8008s a couple years ago on ebay for $40.00 and used it until I purchased a D200. I then sold it in a camera store for a $5.00 profit. My FE2 I still love and use.

Heartseye,

I am sorry I missed your earlier question. The amateur category is not mine, but Nikon's. Nikon has standard and professional dealers and they let each carry different merchandise. Also, they built theit amateur and professional cameras differently and for different service duties. I believ, and please do not hold me to this, that an amateur Nikon camera body is built for a shutter trip service duty of 150,000 and a professional body is built for a shutter trip service duty of 500,000.

Nikon also tends to build other features into their professionally designated bodies that they do not put in their amateur designated bodies.

I believe that when the N8008s bodies came out that the F3 was the current professional body.

Thanks Tom.....I had 3 F3's, with MD4's, at around that time....I needed 3 to ensure that I would always have ONE that worked. That, and how Nikon dealt with it was the reason I left Nikon forever.......My wife had an 8008 which never gave her any trouble at all....cheers...Bob

I'm guessing you used your F3's a bit differently than your wife used her 8008

It's true though.. the 8008 has seemed to have stood the test of time rather well.
