Default Nikon new mirrorless Z series cameras/lenses

Today Nikon announced the long-rumored Z series mirrorless cameras.

Nice cameras. Nice 3 lenses so far. A lot of pluses. Minuses too. Interesting times.

I can't say I'm very impressed. Comparing the specs. to the 850, it seems you get less for more money. Battery life is 330 shots where the 850 is over 1800? And why do the first 2 prime lenses offered overlap the zoom?

It's probably too soon to say, but I'm not very wowed either at this point. We will see how it really turns out as time goes by.

I can see the not wowed factor. But it is a good first jump in to the FF mirrorless land for a brand like Nikon. Only 3 lenses to start is normal, and some duplication of sorts is understandable. There are zoom people and there are prime people.

Why come out with a zoom "kit" lens that is straight f/4 when you are coming out with same focal length zoom next year at f/2.8. Yeah, you need that 24-70 f/2.8 to be one of the so called holy trinities, so why not come out with it first? Or come out with a longer focal length f/4 lens as the "kit"?

The battery deal was a surprise to me too. Not the rated shooting of it, but the fact that they went the way they did. It is the same battery as the 850 uses, so older ones will drop in and work, but the older ones can't be charged in camera like the newer ones can. Some better engineering or moving of parts and pieces might have yielded a bigger battery area that could boost its number. There is no way current battery designs in a mirrorless camera can get near similar size batteries in DSLRs however.

I think it is a good start and a good deal to watch play out. I'd not be too interested in the Z6 as the Z7 looks to be more my cup of tea. Not too impressed with only 24mp on a FF sized sensor really. File size yes, but pixel quality no. But, lower noise for those that shoot in dark places.

Tradeoffs and pluses galore. Fun to see the dog fight in FF mirrorless and when Canon jumps out with theirs (they are really quiet and waiting) it will be more fun.

No, their website says it is under development. Manual focus only, so they may save in build cost without a motor.

I'll obtain a Z6, one day, when the prices fall. Boom!
