Default Used 60mm micro or new 105mm VR micro?

I was wondering what others would do. I'm leaning towards the used 60mm since it is a third of the price . It also seem VERY sharp .

What subjects are you shooting? The 60mm is a great lens, but it's awfully short for things like insects.

Yep, I've owned both, still have the 60mm. Both are as sharp as you could ask for. The 60mm gets pretty close, but not 1:1. The 105 goes 1:1. The 60 is more versatile to me but if I was serious about Macro the 105mm would be in the bag too.

Truth is, a 180mm with an extension tube is pretty nice for closeup too.

I've been using Micros since 1962. The best 2 lenses today(my opinion only, based on my experience)are 105VR - not sharper than others, but better - tonality, bokeh, DR, shadows, make. Sigma 70mm is way better than old Nikkor 60mm - amazingly sharp from 1:1 to infinity, she is ONLY the macro of this range today. Dimitri.

Thanks everyone , The used 60mm disapeared anyway so I think the 105 vr would be a good one, seeing it could be used for many situations , just a bit pricey but oh well, it's an investment right :P

Why not a used 105 f/2.8 non VR? If I found a nice copy of one I'd go ahead and sell my Sigma 105 f/2.8 Macro.

I really like the 105 focal length for macro. The 60 is a very nice lens though...

My dad's 60mm says 1:1 at the end of the magnification scale when focusing, but it might be rounded off a bit.

The 105 VR is 1:1, as was its non-VR predecessor.

I never even looked, mine too. I don't know why I thought it wasn't able to do 1:1... just always did. Thanks.
