Default Mamiya 645

Hi,

I just bought a new used Mamiya today.

So far I have been clicking away without film to see how it works.

One thing I see... I am not sure if it is a problem with the camera or because there is no film.

When I put it on "B" the shutter boes not stay open as long as I push the buttom. When I put on 2 or 4 seconds it merrily opens and closes... not staying open 2 or 4 seconds.

Can anyone check theirs and see if I have a bust camera or if it is normal for a camera without film?

Thanks
Chris

Aaaaahhhh.... I figured it out...

At first I thought the battery was empty as it only functioned on the "No battery" position with a speed of 60. But the light showed the battery was OK.

I put a film in... and all of a sudden everything worked.

Without a film you cannot check the functions.

Best
Chris

Nice to see I am not the only one out there who has one....

It feels kinda stange buying one of these while other folks are getting rid of them....

The 645AFDII with film has become my standard use camera. Secondarily I use it with a digital back.

Yeah same for me.. mainly because i dont have a digital back.. yet.. just ordered a old M11Eyelike Precision back (i shoot a lot of textile & product shots so multishot will be just fine for me =). So hopefully this will get me to shoot a bit more digital medium format aswell.

When I compare fabric in clothes on medium format film as compared to 35mm digital I am much more impressed with film. With that said, the Phase P45 is very impressive on fabrics from what I have shot.

Yes absolutely. I wish i could afford a P45 but that will have to be for later. This M11 will at least get me 22 MP resolution with 48bit color depth which should be good enough for what my clients need right now.

So far most of my textile work has been with a Canon EOS 40D so pretty much everything will be better =)
