Default Finally!! (Toyo 45G w 210mm lens)

Sequel to the Finally! thread.

The Rodenstock Geronar f/6,8 210mm lens arrived in the mail today. Looks about LN-. I think this breaks my string of bad eBay deals.

The lens is a modern 3 element lens in a Copal 1 shutter. Computer designed, modern glass, multi-coated. Probable better than any Tessar, but maybe not quite up to the best 6 element lenses. One thing it has going for it, because of the small size, I should also be able to use it as a long focus lens for my Crown Graphic.

The only marks I see on it are on the back where it goes against the lensboard. Mint looking glass. Shutter sounds accurate, but I will test that.

ADDED:
My old Calumet tester says slightly fast, less than 1/6th stop at 1 second, and a bit less than 1/3 stop slow at 1/125 second, but that is with a lot of ambient light which does not give the most accurate readings. Close enough to say the shutter is probably withing new tolerances.

It is also supposed to take 49mm filters which I have from my Pentax cameras. It came with both lens caps.

This does give me a 100% functional view camera. I am looking forward to using it on the Toyo 45G. Golly, I may even have to buy ten sheets of color film, just to see what the images look like.

Of course, now I have to start thinking about accessories...

Congratulations...

I think you will find that the bigger you go in format, your optical quality can suffer a little without notice.

I.E. A lens for a 8x10 camera can be less sharp then a lens for a 35mm camera, because of the smaller percentage of enlargement.

No asymetrical base tilts?

How are you going to raise the back while keeping it level and still be able to apply a swing with the camera tilted forward?

Just kidding! Nice camera!

Wow, Brooks, I don't know. Maybe I could remove the bellows, put a granny knot in it, and reinstall it?
