Canon, Nikon lenses attached to MF digital backs?

I am just wondering whether if it is possible to use Canon, Nikon (35mm) lenses attached to MF digital backs?

No.

The image circle of the 35mm/135 format lenses will not cover the medium format sensor, even though the digital medium format backs are mostly "crop" sensors that aren't the full 6x4.5, 6x6, or 6x7 frames offered by 120 film backs.

You can use medium format lenses on Nikon and Canon cameras with an adapter, but not the other way around.

Thanks! I have just saw somebody using the nikon 85mm tilt shift attached to a digital back...it was interesting and wasn't sure that it is possible...

Hmm. Did you note what kind of back he or she was using?

Most digital back sensors are too large for most conventional 135 format lenses to cover. There are likely exceptions to the rule, either a much smaller sensor in the back or a larger-than-normal image circle on the 85mm lens in question.

...or maybe the photographer is simply cropping off the edges. I don't understand why you'd use an 85mm PC lens with a digital medium format back though; it'd make more sense to me to put the back onto a view camera.
