Default The Butterfly House

I just got my Hakuba Flash Bracket in from HK, so I made myself a home made diffuser and took it all for a spin at our local Butterfly House which is conveniently 2 miles from where I work.

Overall I think I did okay for my first time shooting insects, but of course I'm no Lord Vetinari

Cool! Nice job. I'm amazed they let you use flash there though. I know the one near me does not allow flash.

Thank you Lori!

I made sure not to ask. I had my whole rig together going in and wasn't about to take it apart

It didn't seem to bother most of the butterflies anyway.

I think part of the reason that they say that, is so they can get good shots and sell them in the gift shop.

I have some kind of cool ones that I shot back in March. I still need to process them.

Nice shots with soft light. It seems that the homemade defusers work fine.I've got the MT 24 (the top of the line macro canon flash) and I am not happy with the light of it, compare to my normal flashgun with the homemade defuser
Good job.

Thank you! I was pretty happy with the light it put out. I was lucky to find the perfect rubbermaid containers for the project, though it's made of3/4 tape which turned out to be an issue in the extremely humid butterfly house environment.

Sorry to hear you don't care for the MT 24, those aren't cheap! Perhaps you can make some tiny diffusers for it
