Default Red ants not flying

Spotted some flying red ants doing their best not to fly. Interestingly the flyers came in 3 colours, black, red and a mottled half way in between but all seemed to be the same size.

Great series Brian. As I understand the winged ones (drones & queens) would fly only if the weather conditions are right.

Thanks Lee and George for the comments
3 days in a row these have been out and I have yet to actually see one takeoff.
