Default Bumble bee bondage ?

Not much about yesterday during the very high winds but I did spot a mating pair of bumble bees and upon a closer look found a spider was also taking interest in the proceedings by gradually sticking the male spider down.
After taking a few shots I did take pity on the male and moved the spider away from the proceedings. Checking back later the male and female bumble did separate and the male then spent another 30 mins getting rid of the webbing before flying off.

Interesting set to see how it begins and how they are being wrapped

Most interesting series. I always thought that spiders bite first to inject the venom and then wrap the prey up.

Thanks again for the comments.

Gautam - really not sure what this spider was doing as it was using the wrong sort of webbing for wrapping but from my observations of web spiders ( and a question I put on another web site) it seems they do recognise more dangerous prey from their vibrations and when closer their smell and touch. In this case they will often wrap their prey to immobilise it before going in to inject venom, presumably as this means they are less likely to get stung themselves. Having seen this behaviour many times, I asked on the other site how do spiders know the potential prey is dangerous.
