Regards this post http://photocamel.com/forum/lighting.../42957-cc.html,

I have now edited the images slightly - reduced exposure in lightroom and changed the colour temp - cooled a bit!

Are these any better - regards exposure/colour

It may be my monitor, but the main light still seems to be overpowering the exposure on these. Which strobes are you using for these? The Elinchroms?

She seems to be missing a separation from the background, be it by a hair light or something else to distinguish her being a three-dimensional object rather than flat.

Yes I used 2 x elinchrom 400BXs. Main and fill. I see what you mean about it being 2-dimensional but there is very little room in which I can use.

She was pertty close to the background (probably just a couple of feet)

I don't know what you use to trigger your strobes, but if you use Pocket Wizards, I'd say to light up your 580EX overhead and behind, possibly even with a snoot to control the beam. Or if you're too limited and just need to make a sort of rim light, think 3-dimensionally with the setup -- put a strobe on the ground pointed at the backdrop, but angle an out-of-sight foamcore board up towards the model so the strobe fires on to the foamcore board.

(Forgive the mulleted model in the example -- I only have MS Paint at my disposal at work)

Thanks for this. I have a 580EX and a sigma 500DG super and always kept away from mixing my flashes with my studio strobes.

I like the idea of the foam board reflector. Will give this a go next time

THanks you very much. Greatly appreciated

What comes to my mind is the lack of shadows on her face. Are you using two flashes and if so do you position them on each side of the model? Tru to keep the Key light on left of her from high and the second one as fill right next to you, but also on the left side of the model.

thanks Artur. What has come out of my foray into studio photography is that there are many different set ups and although I know I need to play around, I also need a more willing model

She enjoyed the session but got frustrated with me footering around!
