Default Canon Speedlite question

I was just wondering, if I had a 580ex on a cord attached to my camera and an off camera flash, 430ex on a stand set to slave, would the 580ex trigger the 430ex w/o the use of pocketwizards or anything of the sort?

yes, but it's IR based not radio. So it will require a line of site in a certain conic radii to work.

You can have the 580 ex point foward (or st-e2) and the 430 off to the side...but if you put the 430 behind you sometime it doesn't fire. Pocketwizards are radio based so you have full freedom.

This will work if you also have two 430ex's correct?

it will work as long as you have a master unit to trigger the flash.

Either a st-e2 transmitter, or a 580ex.
