Great shots! Not familiar with Red Rock in Calif. Where would this be? Been to Red Rock outside Vegas.

That is one tuff old mountain, I'd hate to try and climb that ole tuffy

It is between Mojave CA and Indian Wells on Route 14... It is in Red Rock State Park.....

I lived in Inyokern for 5 years and my mother lived in Lancaster, so you can imagine how many times I've been through the canyon. I really liked the south end of the canyon where the layers are almost vertical. In the late afternoon and early evening the light is just awesome and it becomes magical. It is the high light of the drive. Your pictures really capture the place and bring back good memories for me.

Sure do like the light in late afternoon and evening, so much so that I seldom ever take pictures before about 3pm. The later it gets the better until my favorite time, for the hour before and at sunset...

Thinking about it, doubt Id climb it either.
Close up, it appears the rocks have some soft materiel in them and might crumble from my weight.
