Default White Sands

I recently had a chance to visit White Sands, National Monument in New Mexico. The stark dazzling landscape is quite unusual with the white gypsum dunes.

If you'd like to see more of this place you can check out my photo blog at:

Enjoy!

By adjusting Levels, you can get the sand to be white. Check the Histogram for a guide.

It's a very different place and harsh in many ways. The temperatures can soar fast and if I go again I'll choose a cooler time of the year. After an hour or so I felt like I was in a convection oven.

I'd love to be there at sunrise and sunset. Most of the year there are no clouds at sunset to reflect the light, so it's just a very few minutes with high quality light. During the summer, when they get thundershowers, it the best time to get some clouds to add drama to an evening sky.
