Post Want low cost editor?

if you want a decent low cost editor that is fairly good at doing some PhotoShop stuff, but don't want a free GIMP, maybe the power of Affinity Photo will work for you... it is $50, and that isn't a subscription. One time charge. Does a lot, does it on Mac or PC, they also have an iPad application, and more...

Check it out if you like:

Holy cow, software looks trick! I might have to get that..

Quick question... is says it does HDR merge, can it do it from a single raw? Im looking for a trial download link.

Thanks for posting!

Keep in mind that Affinity is a destructive raw editor. If you are aware of that and can live with it, it is a good piece of software.

I have used it since it came out with no issues, but then I do not go back and re-edit an image over and over.

Explain this "destructive" meaning.

While I haven't played with it much yet, I thought that you could open up a RAW file and make edits, then "save as" something else. Does this program not allow you to do that?

Never mind, 5 minutes of research and I think I have a small grasp of the concept.

Affinity does not attach a side car file to the image like Lightroom, Photoshop and many other programs do. That means that once you finalize the image you can not go back in and undo anything you have done. You have to start all over if you wish to re-edit a raw file.

Look at aftershot (pro) or lightroom for the nondestructive part. But hey the question was about a *cheap* editor and that has its price.

I concur that Affinity Photo is a very accomplished editor for q person looking for a "low cost editor". The purchase price includes free updates while the software is in a 1.x mode. And I must say, each update has brought important improvements. The next update (now in a beta available to owners) does significantly improve one of its weak links - that is the shadows and highlights sliders which had previously been criticized.

For hard core professionals, Affinity may still lag a bit from options in Photoshop. However, for those of us who are less than that will find it a wonderful program for its cost.

Additionally, the company (Serif) has a great set (200+) of video tutorials. Additionally, there is also a long list of tutorials by others available on YouTube covering many topics.
