Machinery HDR Effects version 2.6 (2013-02-25)

* Added 'Clarity' effect.
* Increased speed of GPU processing by 40%.
* Updated RAW library.

Version 2.6 has a new function – Clarity. This effect increases contrast in chosen areas but does not increase detail levels. Thanks to a special algorithm there are practically no adverse effects, especially no halo effect around the contrasted elements of the image.

The Clarity effect is dedicated to black and white photography. Unlike typical HDR filters, Clarity is perfectly suited for processing images with people because it does not increase imperfections or contrasts on skin.

Once photography enters your bloodstream, it is like a disease.

Software: Too numerous to list but my most used utility is ShiftN for perspective correction

Gear: Canon G12, no tripod, no lenses, no flash, no remote, no cases or bags!

Hi, Well I hate to say it but not amused.
I understood that the updates would be available for a year after purchase but not that it would require a payment of 50% of the full purchase price just to get any new updates after that first year. Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying something but not 50% for updates. There are a lot of HDR software programs out there and if Machinery HDR go down this road I think they may loose a few customers along the way.
Probably be those that don't agree with me but I am out of Machinery HDR.

Updates are available free of charge for a year. After this time you do not have to purchase updates you can keep using the program with its last downloaded update; the program itself works without any time limitation.
I think that a year of free updates is a fair deal for the price of 15.
