Looks like the connection for the motor drive motor unit to the camera body. There would be a counter matching piece on the other half.

Neither a wire cutter nor a pair of pliers, though Morgan does get credit for identifying the screw head as the end of a pivot pin or hinge. As Greg as guessed, it is a pair of scissors, but what kind? Perhaps this next shot will give someone enough of a clue to guess...

My mom had used thinning scissors on me when I was a wee lad. That last shot you posted looks like it could be them.

Not thinning shears, which are a standard barber's tool. Although my father used to be a barber, I don't have ready access to a pair of those. These are for a very different purpose.
