Challenge: How would you crop (or alter) this image to make it better? I'd be interested in seeing your rendition. Feel free to post your reworkings right here, of course. Thanks!

So the artificial thingies on the stems don't bug you?

cropping is not needed imho, because I like the composition.
Made the background black, a little levels adjustment on the whites followed by a velvia adjustment

the artificial thingies don't bug me. their placement is similar to thorns you would see on roses so in that respect they give it symmetry. I think without them the stems would look like sticks and the image would feel lacking. just my opinion.

JDArt,

I duplicated the image, applied a threshold of about 54, took a hard brush and painted in the whites with white and I erased the white parts left in the bottom of the picture. Then applied a gaussian blur of 2 pixels. This gave me the mask, to work with. Made a selection out the mask and pressed del:

Thanks. I have a lot to learn.

I like the other versions here, too.

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party with this one, and it seems like other people had the same idea any way here goes. I decided that if I was going to lose the stems it became too central and added space to the left.

Then I decided also that I could lose the stems altogether and make it look like I was looking fron above. As I see Rense did.
