The system tray doesn't mean as much as it used to, its the process list and the resources they are using that is a better indicator. Many processes run whether there is an icon in the task tray or not. I'd like to see it gone, and a "quick start" applet in the control panel, where I could select which programs to keep alive.

Anyway...here's my desktop:

Here's mine as of a minute ago. I had to do some quick blurring of a bit of text as I'm at work and not sure if I should disclose too much . On the left is Softsqueeze - a Java app that talks to my Slimserver at home so I can stream my music (currently playing Sigur Ros). In the middle is Adium - a messenger client, and below is a terminal so I can look like I'm working .

Funny, I just got a request for something I moved and it took me longer to find it now that it is filed "properly" than if I'd have just left it alone.
