Damn, I never should have clicked on that link. I ended up wasting 45 minutes watching the old Flash Gordan and Buck Rogers videos from 1939 that I used to watch on TV as a kid. LOL

I'm no sping chicken, but I don't think I was even born yet when this first aired.

I take that back. I actually was around for some of them, perhaps most; but too young to care.

Neither was I but they had all the old sci fi series from the movie theaters on TV back in the day.

This was originally a radio broadcase, if I remember correctly. Perhaps they may have gotten by with static pictures like this in the very early days of television, but I find it hard to believe that children used to moving pictures would sit still for a series of still images that changed only once every minute or so. The color image of the helmet had to have been added later. Commercial television did not broadcast in color until 1963.

How well I remember color coming to TV. I was watching a episode of Lost in Space in black & white, at the end the preview for the next show was in color!!!
I went running to my best friend's house shouting "it's in color, it's in color!!!"

BTW - Netflix is rebooting Lost in Space. I'm looking forward to that.

It takes a while to get started but it's interesting.
