Full size ALL steel automobiles with big V-8 engines and manual transmissions (usually 3 on the tree) and they still got good gas milage.

Premium (ethyl) leaded gasoline

stations actually had "gas wars" and gas prices would drop all over town.

cops would actually help people

Sing along with Mitch (follow the bouncing ball)

A police officer stopped you for some traffic offense, and you actually got a warning. The goal was to help make you a safer driver not collect the revenue from a fine.

Family night. Everyone stayed home and played board games and made popcorn by shaking the kernels in a covered pot.

Going to a movie theater and having to watch newsreels before they showed the cartoon. Movies were always a double feature. The teenagers sat in the balcony seats so they could make out.

Car hops and sock hops.

Circus tents.

Having to iron clothes, pillow cases, hankies etc.

Going outside to play.

Portable hi-fi record players.

Colorful aluminum drinking glasses.

Playing with cap guns and the boys exploding the rolls of caps on the sidewalk with impact; usually a rock.

Spankings.

Sack lunches with sandwiches wrapped in wax paper.

Making ice cream in a wooden hand-cranked ice cream maker.

Wearing gloves to church.

Playing ball and hopscotch in the street.

Giant Strides on the school playground.

Dress codes!

Who even knew what gas milage was? Gas was cheap. I remember $.27/gal when I started to drive. I could fill my VW for $3

My four and a half year old granddaughter and her equally young cousin were looking at a 1.44 floppy disk the other day, and I heard my granddaughter say, "I think it's some kind of a Frisbee". Then she threw it across the room like it was, and they played Frisbee with it for awhile, till they got tired of it and moved on to something else.

I was very amused by it all.
