Angry Still soft focus Issue with HS20

What the _____!!
Seems to be sharp focus in the viewer until I push the button all the way down.
Then my shots come out....JUST outta focus!
What am I doing wrong here?

could be numberous things .. first i would resset the camera to factory standard .
normally you press the shutter halfway and look in the viewfinder for a mostly green dot to tell you that a subject is in focus, then you fully drepress the shutter and presto the image is recorded .

But if you assigned af to a special button (do not know if the HX 20 can do that) than you probably will have to press the af buton or programable button and then the full shutter button.

but that is all my guess and 0.0000002 euro ct of opinoun

Just guessing, I'd say that's a good possibility.

What lighting conditions are you shooting in? As a HS20 owner, I find that good results are in sunlight/cloudy bright ie f8 or more. My camera was set to af-s by default. There is also the option for centre or tracking in af mode.

Could your shots be affected by camera shake, have noted it having obtained a raynox 1.85 T/C which means I have a total range of 24 (without T/C) to 1332 (Max xoom with T/C) mm.

Might be an idea to post some samples

MILLION thanx Guys!

I'll bet that could be the problem.....
I had it on AF-C so I have now set it to AF-S.
I also reset to factory before that just in case I messed with something else I shouldn't have.
Next few days I'll try these settings and let ya know how I made out.

With Af-C there is faster focus tracking but also the possibilty to loose focus .
with AF-S there is autofocus or not , normally af can be longer than with af-c

AF-C is only to be advised when photographing sports and you want to follow the object to a certain point and depress (shutter) when that point is reached

Thanx Dirk.......makes sense.....dunno what I was thinking.
Maybe at some point I thought it would be good for Bird shots?
They are always moving and jumping around..... <<SHRUG>>
Live and learn I guess....never run outta things to learn in Photography!

Well It depends on the camera i'll guess (don't have the HX 20) but generally it works with birds this way

AF-C mode (looking through the viewfinder ) half press the shutter and track the bird to a place where you want to take the picture and there full press and you should have some nice action in it

I use my HS20 for bird shots, so it can be done. Yes, they are unpredictable, there will be an element of luck which is one of the reasons bird photography is challenging.

Aim to get the birds eye as the focal point of your shot, the best birds shots generally have eye contact
