The S3 is definitely my camera and I hardly can't wait to get the specifications of the S4. I contacted Fuji Netherlands and got a straight answer : There will be a Fuji S4 coming out at Photokina this year and available for the public March/April 2007. No price or specifications yet in the reply I got.
Available March/April 2007 is what I would expect. I hope the S4 doesn't suffer a delay like the S3 did. This means hopefully the S3 price will drop even further right after the announcement... unless supply dries up.

I am waiting to see what Olympus is going to do with the E-3... I also expect it to be announced at Photokina, but not available until March/April 2007 also...

I really wish Fuji came out with a more entry level SR sensor DSLR... or hell, even one in one lens. I wouldn't mind at all a camera that performs fast in the body of the new 6900 (or is it 6500?) FD, but with the sensor of the S3.

But in that case, the lens *better* be good.

Fuji probably won't call it an S4 because 4 is an unlucky number in Japanese culture. More likely an S5 or something entirely different.

ahh the new fuji SX. I dont care what they call it. from the new cameras out by fuji and the opinion poll at pro net. i think the iso will be 100-3200. maybe 50-6400.
i had see a rumor, stating "a fuji rep told me" 5fps, 12/12 sensor 20 shot bufferand write times faster t han a d2x." now while this sounds great, it seems all to perfect for me to beleive. i also read a 18/18 FF sensor. so if you go s4 rumor hunting, remember everone is talking to a fuji rep and all the reps seem to be telling us what we want to hear.

i am not putting down francis claim because i actually know that this is starting to become the norm. its coming and wwe know about when. no specs make it believeable.

what i do know fuji put out is about 6 months after the s3, fujifilm said they were planing to get into the photo- journalism market with a new dslr.

i think they are trying to make good on this, from all the rumors i have see.

Absolutely correct, the 4 is unlucky number, especially Nikon F4, which is covered by world fame, glory and respect of every pro.

Of course, whenever talking about human affairs, statements containing "always" and "never" are (almost) always false. I have no explanation for that exception; nevertheless, it is an exception.

Ok, I've used the S3 now for a Bar Mitzvah, two portraits and a full-day wedding. Probably about 1500 images total. What I've discovered is that I get the best results on skin tone and exposure by setting the DR to "Standard". Even on Standard, the exposure is noticeably different than the S2. The CCD needs more light to get correct exposure. Slightly under exposed shots look muddy and out of focus. Not unusual for under-exposed digital images, but it seems a bit more sensitive to "correct" exposure than the S2. I did some in-home bridal portraits yesterday (I'll post later) and when using the softbox and correct exposure (according to the histogram) I got excellent results.

At the reception, the on-bracket strobe worked well but still in TTL it needed more exposure most of the time..a +.5 flash seemed to work better when bouncing the strobe.

Is there anyone else who has been using the S3 for the above applications and what have you been seeing?

Thank's.

sorry jim, i dont shoot it that way. but the over on the flash seems right. my experience in night shots is i can shoot over by .5 and it not show. sometimes i can go a full stop over. i do like that i can shoot straight up instead of .5 under with the S2.
