Default Stupid question about developing

Ahoy,

Well, I've been reading on the latitude some films have and how they can be overexposed or underexposed by X number of stops. I've also read about pushing or pulling. My (dumb) question is: if I want to push or pull, I must underexpose or overexpose the whole roll, correct?

Say, there's no way I can expose correctly and overexpose a few frames, because trying to recover the latter would ruin the properly exposed ones?

TIA

Grr, how I wish you could still buy 12-exp rolls.

Thanks, Verdesardog.

The benefits of being able to push or pull film exposure in development occurs when one knows in advance that the whole roll has been mis-exposed (either intentionally or accidentally). e.g. perhaps you accidentally set the ISO to the wrong value but discover this before development. Sometimes you have to underexpose because of poor light or film with wrong ISO in cameral.

If you bulk load your film you can have a 12 exp roll if you wish.

If shooting 35mm you learn to unload and reload the
same roll twice or three times before it's finished.

Or you carry two camera bodies. No need for 12
exposure rolls either way.
